Melbourne’s centre is organised on a grid, making it easy to pair Federation Square with nearby galleries and the Yarra riverfront. Queen Victoria Market and the Royal Botanic Gardens deserve separate outings rather than a hurried loop. Tram routes cover the inner city, while trains open coastal and regional day trips. Indian travellers often have relatives or university appointments here, so a flexible plan is useful. Melbourne Airport has no passenger rail station; the express bus reaches Southern Cross, where city trains and trams connect.
Southern Cross is convenient for a SkyBus arrival, while a stay nearer Flinders Street suits Federation Square and the river. Melbourne Airport still requires a road transfer; the Metro Tunnel is a city railway project, not an airport rail link. A hotel near the central tram network can simplify the final leg after the express bus.
The Free Tram Zone covers a defined central area, so check the boundary before riding towards the Royal Botanic Gardens or farther suburbs. Queen Victoria Market belongs to the northern side of the centre, while the gardens sit across the river from the main grid. The Metro Tunnel’s Town Hall and State Library stations connect with established central stations, and Anzac gives the St Kilda Road area another rail access point. At the airport, international flights use Terminal 2, while domestic airlines use other terminals. An onward flight within Australia therefore needs the domestic terminal indicated by the carrier, even when both legs appear on one booking.
March to May or September to November, roughly 11–24°C, for parks and streets.
By Air: Melbourne Airport (MEL) is about 23 km northwest of the centre; SkyBus to Southern Cross usually takes about 30–45 minutes. Taxis and booked cars also operate.
By Rail: Southern Cross station connects airport buses with suburban and regional trains.
By Road: SkyBus links the airport and Southern Cross; regional coaches leave from the city.

Melbourne Airport (MEL). Terminal 2 handles international flights, including services from India; Terminal 1 serves Qantas domestic flights and Terminal 3 Virgin Australia domestic operations. Terminal 4 serves Jetstar and other domestic carriers, so follow the operating airline’s terminal.
Singapore rewards a plan built around neighbourhoods rather than a long list of landmarks. Little India has temples, shops and places to eat around Serangoon Road; Marina Bay connects public space with Gardens by the Bay; and the river districts lead towards museums and older civic buildings. Changi Airport is linked to the MRT, so arriving passengers can reach an accommodation area without arranging a car in advance. Humidity and brief showers still shape a walking day.
Serangoon Road is a useful short-stay base for Serangoon Road restaurants and the Downtown and North East MRT lines. City Hall works better for the National Gallery and riverfront, while Marina Bay puts the waterfront close by but separates it from the small shops around Tekka Centre. Decide which cluster matters before choosing a hotel; a place near an MRT entrance can be more useful than a central-looking map pin across a large road junction.
Changi’s MRT station serves Terminals 2 and 3. The airport branch requires a change at Tanah Merah for the East West Line towards town, while Expo provides an interchange with the Downtown Line. This distinction matters for hotels near Bugis or Serangoon Road. Jewel is on the public side of the airport, so a visit during a connection requires the appropriate entry permission and a return through departure formalities. Gardens by the Bay’s outdoor grounds and its ticketed conservatories need different amounts of time; a walk through the gardens does not include admission to every attraction. Keep Sentosa as a separate outing from the civic district, and group the National Gallery beside the Padang, Singapore River and nearby bridges into a day with fewer transfers.
February to April, about 24–32°C; rain remains possible in every month.
By Air: Singapore Changi Airport (SIN) is about 20 km from the central district; allow about 30 minutes by taxi. MRT trains connect via Tanah Merah or Expo, with public buses and taxis also available.
